Privacy in plain language
A parent or guardian controls a child's AdeoLearn account. We collect only the information needed to provide and improve the service, do not sell personal data, and give families ways to access, correct or delete their information.
1. Who we are
AdeoLearn is built and operated by Adeo Labs Ltd, a company registered in Kenya. In this policy, “AdeoLearn,” “Adeo Labs,” “we,” “us” and “our” refer to Adeo Labs Ltd. For data-protection purposes, Adeo Labs Ltd is the data controller for personal data covered by this policy.
Contact us at hello@adeolearn.com. Our principal place of business is in Nairobi, Kenya.
2. Scope of this policy
This policy applies to our website, waitlist, communications and, once available, the AdeoLearn learning platform and related services. It does not govern third-party websites or services that have their own privacy notices.
3. Personal data we collect
| Category | Examples | How we receive it |
|---|---|---|
| Waitlist and contact data | Email address, user type and messages sent to us | Directly from you |
| Parent or guardian data | Name, contact details, account settings and consent records | Directly from the adult account holder |
| Learner data | First name or nickname, age or grade range, learning preferences, answers, quest progress and achievements | From the parent, guardian or learner using an adult-managed account |
| Technical data | IP address, browser and device type, approximate location, timestamps, logs and security events | Automatically when the service is used |
| Support and feedback | Survey responses, support requests and product feedback | When you choose to provide it |
We do not ask children to provide precise location, government identification, biometric data, health information or other sensitive personal data through ordinary learning activities. Please do not send such information unless we specifically request it for a lawful and clearly explained purpose.
4. How and why we use personal data
We process personal data only where we have a lawful basis. We use it to:
- manage the waitlist and send requested early-access updates with consent;
- create and administer adult-managed accounts and provide CBC-aligned learning quests;
- adapt practice, record progress and show parents or guardians useful learning insights;
- provide support, respond to enquiries and communicate service information;
- protect learners, prevent misuse and maintain the security of our service;
- understand and improve product performance using aggregated or de-identified information where practical; and
- meet legal, regulatory, accounting and dispute-resolution obligations.
Depending on the activity, our lawful basis may be consent, performance of a contract, compliance with a legal obligation, protection of vital interests, or our legitimate interests where those interests do not override a person's rights—especially a child's rights and best interests.
We do not use a child's personal data for behavioural advertising, sell personal data, or make decisions that produce legal or similarly serious effects solely through automated processing.
5. Children's privacy and parental control
AdeoLearn is designed for children but is offered through a parent, legal guardian, educator or authorised school. A child must not create an independent account or submit personal data without the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian.
Before collecting learner data, we take reasonable steps to confirm the adult's identity, authority and consent. The adult account holder can review the child's information, correct it, withdraw consent or ask us to delete it, subject to limited legal exceptions. We apply data minimisation, age-appropriate design and the best interests of the child when deciding how learner data is used.
If we learn that a child's personal data was provided without appropriate adult authorisation, we restrict or delete it. Tell us at hello@adeolearn.com.
7. International data transfers
Some service providers may process data outside Kenya or the country where you live. Where personal data crosses borders, we use an applicable lawful transfer mechanism and reasonable contractual, organisational and technical safeguards. We apply enhanced protections to children's and sensitive personal data and seek explicit consent where Kenyan law requires it.
8. How long we keep data
We keep personal data only for as long as needed for the purpose described in this policy, including providing the service, maintaining security, resolving disputes and meeting legal obligations. Waitlist data is kept until you unsubscribe, ask us to delete it, or the waitlist purpose ends, unless a longer period is required by law. Learner records are deleted or de-identified when the account is closed and no valid reason remains to retain them.
9. How we protect data
We use proportionate technical and organisational safeguards, including access controls, secure transmission, provider review, staff confidentiality practices, backups and incident-response procedures. No online service can promise absolute security. If a personal-data breach creates a real risk of harm, we notify affected people and the relevant regulator as required by law.
10. Your privacy rights
Subject to applicable law, you may ask us to confirm whether we process your data or a child's data under your authority; obtain access; correct inaccurate data; object to or restrict certain processing; request deletion or portability; withdraw consent; and challenge certain automated decisions.
Email hello@adeolearn.com with “Privacy request” in the subject line. We may verify your identity and, for a learner request, your parental or guardian authority. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing already carried out lawfully.
12. Contact, complaints and policy changes
Questions or complaints can be sent to hello@adeolearn.com. We investigate and respond within the period required by applicable law.
In Kenya, you may also lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner. If you live elsewhere, you may have the right to contact your local data-protection authority.
We may update this policy as AdeoLearn develops or legal requirements change. We post the revised date and give additional notice where a change materially affects your rights.
